Our Fall Chinook Development

Fall Chinook update : Cedar Creek Hatchery, 01/22/2021

Quick update on the status and development of the Fall Chinook that were spawned by the Nestucca Anglers in October 2020 here at Cedar Creek Hatchery. There were three egg takes (10/12, 20, 27/2020) totaling an estimated 159,600 eggs for production.

All three groups have hatched (12/7, 18, 26/2020) and are looking lively! The sack fry are currently trayed down in our basket troughs in groups of 5,000. It’s looking like they will be “buttoned up” (sack fully absorbed) by the end of February.

Once the sack fry have completely absorbed their yolks they will be ponded into the hatch houses’ Canadian troughs and we will begin feeding them. I’ll send another update with the ponding details, feed details and some photos so you can see their progress!

Spawning 2021 Broodstock

Just a quick update showing more pictures from this last weeks spawning and stream enrichment.

Huge thank you to everyone that assisted the hatchery staff with the spawning of our 2021 Broodstock.

There are plenty of fish in the system and we will continue to spawn weekly to collect through the entire run.

Note: Images can also be viewed from our gallery page.

The hook and line fish to date equals seven pairs for a total of 15 pairs in the holding pen. The trap is cleaned out and ready for the rains over the weekend.

2020 has brought many challenges throughout this year. Times continue to be tough but our message is the Nestucca Anglers team remains strong!

On Monday Aug 23rd, our 2019-2020 Broodstock has been released in 5 different Nestucca basin locations and was estimated to be at 100,000 fish. Sunday Sept 13th, the holding pens at the hatchery were cleaned and are now ready for us to start our 2020-2021 adult fall Chinook collection.

Going forward we will be posting all of our activities as well as future events on this site. This will include event photos, annual videos and most importantly updated timelines and ways you can help us succeed.

Due to COVID-19, we are unable to hold large events and/or any fundraising activities. With the launch of this new site we are planning to run a GoFundMe activity asking for help with the breeding, rearing and transplantation of this next years run of fish.
